Source of Inspiration

Sa’haba was the companions of Holy Prophet Muhammad (Sallallaahu alayhi wasallam).

I Seek refuge in Allah Subhanahu WA Ta’aala (GOD), from the Shaitan.
Allah Subhanahu WA Ta’aala (GOD)’s name I begin, the Most Beneficent, the Most
Narrated Abu Said (Radiyallaahu anhu): Holy Prophet Muhammad (Sallallaahu alayhi wasallam) said, “Do not abuse my companions (Radiyallaahu anhuma).) For if any one of you, spent gold equal to Uhud (in Allah’s Cause) it would not be equal to a Mud or even a half Mud spent by one of them.”
Companions of the Prophet – Sahih Bukhari: Volume 5, Book 57, Number 22

The Sa’haba was the companions of Holy Prophet Muhammad (Sallallaahu alayhi wasallam).
They are described in glowing terms by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Sallallaahu alayhi wasallam) as the following hadith from Sahih Muslim [Book 30, Number 6159] shows:
Narrated Aisha (Radiyallaahu anha):
A person asked Holy Prophet Muhammad (Sallallaahu alayhi wasallam) as to who amongst the people were the best.
He said: Of the generation to which I belong, then of the second generation (generation adjacent to my generation), then of the third generation (generation adjacent to the second generation).
Below is a partial list of some of the companions of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Sallallaahu alayhi wasallam).
Their lives remain a source of inspiration for the later generations of Muslims, including today's.
May Allah be pleased with all of them?

Osama (Radiyallaahu anhu) Says: One day I was with Allah Subhanahu WA Ta’aala (GOD)’messenger, upon him be peace and blessings, on the roof of a tall building in Madina.
Looking around, God’s Messenger said: Now I see seditious events and internal conflicts pouring down like drops of rain, among your houses.
‘Umar was very afraid of the appearance of disorder and sedition in the Muslim community.
One day during his caliphate, he asked Hudhayfa about them. Hudhayfa responded:
‘They have nothing to do with you, O ‘Umar. There is a gate between you and them’. ‘Umar asked again:
‘Will this gate be opened or broken down?’ Hudhayfa answered: ‘It will be broken down’.
This answer shook ‘Umar, who reacted: ‘Then, this gate will never be closed again!’
‘Umar was the gate between the Muslim community and sedition.
After he was stabbed by a treacherous Persian slave, Muslim unity received a fatal blow,
And the following centuries, till today, have unfortunately witnessed discord and sedition in Muslim lands. [Bukhari and Muslim]

The Messenger foretold the spread of Islam in the world
Bukhari and Abu Dawud quote Habib ibn Arat, who said:
Once, during the days of trouble and torture in Makkah, I went to Allah Subhanahu WA Ta’aala (GOD)’s Messenger,
Who was sitting in the shade of the Ka’ba?
I was still a slave in the hands of Makkan’s then. They inflicted on me severe tortures. Unable to endure those tortures any more,
I requested Allah Subhanahu WA Ta’aala (GOD)’s Messenger to pray to Allah Subhanahu WA Ta’aala (GOD) for help and salvation.
But he turned towards me and said:
By Allah Subhanahu WA Ta’aala (GOD), previous communities had to endure more pitiless tortures.
Some of them were made to lie in ditches and cut in two with saws but this did not make them forsake their faith.
They were skinned alive but they never became weak against the enemy.
Surely Allah Subhanahu WA Ta’aala (GOD) will perfect this religion, but you display undue haste.
A day will come when a woman will travel alone by herself from Sana’a to Hadramut fearing nothing but wild beasts.
 However, you show impatience.
Habib concluded: ‘By Allah Subhanahu WA Ta’aala (GOD), what Allah Subhanahu WA Ta’aala (GOD)’s Messenger predicted that day, has all come true. I have personally witnessed it all.’

Abdullah bin `Amr bin `Aas (radiyallaahu ‘anhu), he related that a woman came to the Messenger of Allah with her daughter.
On the daughter’s wrist were two heavy gold bracelets.
The Messenger asked her, “Do you pay Zakat on this?” She replied, “No.
” The Messenger said: “Would it please you that Allah will encircle you with two bracelets of fire?”
The reporter commented that she took them off and threw them down in front of the Messenger, and said: “They are for Allah and his Messenger.” [Ahmed].;
Think about this for a second–fiqh of Zakat aside. Imagine, if you will, yourself in this place. The Messenger of Allah comes to you, and says, “You need to pay Zakat on those two gold bracelets.”
What would you do? Probably hum and haw, then get them weighed, calculate the value, and leave your Zakat with the masjid to distribute.
But what did this Sahabi (in similar narrations, Asma (Radiyallaahu anha) the daughter of Abu Bakr (Radiyallaahu anhu) do?
She gave the ENTIRE bracelets, both of them, as charity! Not just paid Zakat–2.5% of the value–she actually donated the whole thing feasabilillah!
And this is what makes companions so special! (And better people than us!) We do the bare minimum, enough to just scrape by; but they go for the MAXIMUM reward.
And that’s the lesson of this hadith–and what a valuable lesson it is!

Another instance that comes to my mind is when Abu Bakr (Radiyallaahu anhu) anhu gave all of his wealth for the sake of Allah Subhanahu WA Ta’aala (GOD) and the Prophet sallallaahu alayhi WA sallam asked him what he left for his family and he replied:  Allah Subhanahu WA Ta’aala (GOD) and His Messenger.
Subhanallah!
The companions also loved the Qur’an and the Sunnah.
So if we are told something is Sunnah, we should not brush it off and say
“Oh, it’s only Sunnah”, but we should try to implement it immediately just as the Companions did.

Lets not stop and think when it comes to doing more Ibadah, otherwise we will let the weakness of our nafs and the whispers of Shaitan get to us and make excuses….Lets just stand up purely for the Sake of  Allah Subhanahu WA Ta’aala (GOD)
Some suggestions for deeds we can do;
Visit someone for the sake of Allah Subhanahu WA Ta’aala (GOD) (Take a gift or food)
Say Salaam to anyone you see on the street
Invite all the family for dinner (for those you have not been in contact with).
Do your bit.

Read about Ihsan. Learn about it. Ask yourself frequently: “What would it mean to do ihsan in this thing I’m doing right now?”
Aim for the gold medal. Don’t be satisfied with memorizing only half of Juz Amma.
Memorize the entire Qur’an! (Step by step, of course.) Or if you’ve studied one area of fiqh (like the fiqh of Salah),
Learn what the different scholarly opinions are (like study fiqh from a different madhab).
Give a Little Extra. If someone asks you for help–with some project, essay, exam, task, chore around the house (parents?),
Don’t just do the bit they ask! Throw in a little extra, do a little extra. As Allah Subhanahu WA Ta’aala (GOD) says, “Is there any reward for ihsan other than ihsan?” [55:60].
Let’s ask Allah Subhanahu WA Ta’aala (GOD) to help us learn the lessons from these great companions and to help us implement them in our lives (Ameen)!

InshaAllah:  Allah Subhanahu WA Ta’aala (GOD) makes the path of ease, easy; so pick something up.
Start praying one Sunnah you didn’t pray; or learn a new dhikr (such as the one for mornings or evenings).
It may be tough in the beginning, but it pays off in the long-term.

Pray and do Dhikr in good times and tense times, and hold tight to the rope of Allah Subhanahu WA Ta’aala (GOD) at all times.
Try to give up some dunya and replace with Dhikr and Salat, InshaAllah it will help.
Alhamdullilah! Sabr is the secret door to Allah Subhanahu WA Ta’aala (GOD)’s presence.
It is the code that tells Allah Subhanahu WA Ta’aala (GOD) that we truly submit to His will, whatever it may be.
May Allah Subhanawataala grant us what is best in this world and the next!
Action speaks louder then words my friend’s practice Islam the way of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Sallallaahu alayhi wasallam) did.
May Allah Subhanahu WA Ta’aala (GOD) help us to do that which He loves and which pleases Him?
May Allah Subhanahu WA Ta’aala (GOD) make our efforts sincere and keep us all on the straight path...........

The Prophetic Wisdom- ON DATES

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) gave a special attention for Dates as part of the believer’s diet especially during the Holy month Ramadan. Allah Almighty mentioned Palm trees many times in the Quran, and made it the food of the dwellers of Paradise, So what are the secrets of this great nutriment? Is it possible to think of using dates as remedy for some diseases? What do scientists of today say about dates?

Dates are one of the most nourishing fruits and It’s called sometimes “Bread of Desert”, More than two third of dates’ weight is natural sugar. This fruit was highly esteemed by the ancient civilizations more than 5000 years ago; ancient Egyptians considered dates as a symbol of fertility, while the Romans and the Greeks used it to ornament their stately triumph pageants[1]. Today, dates are widely-grown in the Arabian Peninsula, Iran, Egypt, Iraq, Spain, Italy and the United States. There are more than 600 varieties of dates [2].

Next, we are going to explore the usefulness of dates to humans throughout the different stages of their lives.

Dates and the Prebirth period

Dates stimulate the uterus by regulating and brisking its contractions which facilitate delivery. The uterus is a relatively large muscular organ and it urgently requires an adequate supply of natural sugar during labor and delivery. Being laxative, dates are essential for pregnant women before delivery in order to purge the colon and intestine and to facilitate delivery. The miraculous ness of the Quranic verse shows evidently as Allah tells Mary: (And shake the trunk of the palm tree towards thee – thou wilt cause ripe dates to fall upon thee) [Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) gave a special attention for Dates as part of the believer’s diet especially during the Holy month Ramadan. Nutriment and medicine for children

Dates contain natural sugar which is easily absorbed and digested, thus, it is safe and comforting for children’s stomach and intestine. And the dates juice is useful especially if we mix it with Milk to become very nourishing and restorative drink for children and adults. Dates and honey paste is used for the treatment of diarrhea and dysentery in children but it should be taken three times a day.

This paste also comforts and hardening the gums during teething and facilitates the process.

It is advisable to purchase the good varieties of dates and to wash them thoroughly before use especially when used as food or remedy for children. Here, we should mention the prophetic tradition of (Al Tahneek); rubbing the newborn’s mouth with a well-chewed date and feeding him with it. Science has proved that giving the newborn some sugar dissolved in water provides the child with the necessary nutrition and improves their immunity against diseases.
and when we know that sugar in dates is the most easily absorbed and digested type of sugar so it will be suitable nutriment for newborns but the dates should be well-chewed or soaked in water to be easy for the newborn to take. This proves that the great prophet (PBUH) preceded today’s doctors to this type of nutrition. It’s no wonder that he preceded them as he is the messenger of their God.

Figure (1) Dates are the best nutriment for newborns since pregnancy and during breast feeding

An effective treatment for constipation

Dates can be used in the treatment of intestinal disturbances and it also helps the intestine perform their function effectively, and helps establishing a colony of friendly bacteria in the intestines. Dates are also highly beneficial in the treatment of constipation as the roughage provided by it stimulates sluggish bowels. They should be immersed in water at night and taken after making them into fine syrup the next morning to secure laxative effect [3].

A Remedy for Sexual Debility

Date syrup can be used as a treatment for weak heart. It can also be use for the treatment of sexual weakness. When it’s mixed with milk and honey, dates can be used as a tonic for the treatment of sexual disturbances for both sexes, and such syrup strengthens the body and raises its energy levels. The elderly would benefit from this syrup too. It improves their stamina and purges their bodies from the toxins that have accumulated in their cells along the years.

An Ideal Nutriment for Fasters

It was very weird that western physicians who treat their patients by fasting advise them by taking the natural sugar in fruits and water when breaking the fast [4]. And when we know that dates contain a high ratio of such easily-absorbed sugar then dates and water are the best nutriments for fasters.

Here we remember the Hadith of our prophet (PBUH) : (When any of you breaks his fasting he should eat dates cause dates are blessing, if he didn’t find dates then drink water cause water is purifying) [Narrated by Abu Dawood].Here we see that the prophet (PBUH) showed us the principles of effective fasting, by eating dates and drinking water at breakfast centuries before Westerns.

The prophetic wisdom out of having Dates for breakfast might be reduce the hunger and consequently, reduce the amounts of food consumed; therefore the fasting will be effective and useful. And if we remember that fasting consider the best weapon to excise toxics out of the body, then having dates (toxin-resistive) when you break your fast represent a real integrated treatment against weakness and fatigue resulted from the accumulation of toxic chemicals and heavy metals in the cells of the body.

Figures (2) Date lose 1/3 of their water content when dried in the sun. Dried dates contain a high ratio of natural sugar hence; they are the best food for fasters

A Treatment for Obesity

The wide variety of nutritious elements in dates makes it hunger-resistive! And when we know that the cause behind Obesity is a persisting feeling of hunger and an appetite for food which drives a person to consume larger amounts of fats and sugar when he eat his meal. So treatment by eating few dates when feeling hungry helps reduce hunger and be filled. These dates will provide the body with the necessary sugar and stimulate the intestine which reduce hunger greatly, and eventually, reduce food consumption. The miraculous ness of the prophet’s saying shows as he said: (A household that has dates doesn’t feel hunger) [narrated by Muslim]. We can conclude that dates can be used to treat Obesity.

It is a long-established custom among Muslim parents to put a piece of well-chewed date (or other available sweet fruit) in the mouth of a newborn baby. Muslims do this following the practice of the Prophet Muhammad SAW, , believing him to bee, as the Quran says, sent as a healing and a mercy to mankind. We may infer from the way this custom originated that there is a virtue in it. There is - complimentary to the virtue and pleasure of following the Sunnah (the practice of the Prophet) - placing a `sugary substance' inside the mouth of a new-born baby dramatically reduces pain sensation and heart rate.

An interesting scientific medical study, published in the British Medical Journal (No. 6993, ), proved beyond any doubt the benefit of giving a new-born child sugar, in order to reduce the feeling of any painful procedure like heel pricking for a blood sample or before circumcision.

The study, entitled “the analgesic (pain killing) effect of sucrose in full term infants: a randomized controlled trial', was done by Nora Hoary, Christopher Wood, Gillian Griffiths and Malcolm Levine in the post-natal ward in the Leeds General Infirmary in England.

60 healthy infants of gestational age 37-42 weeks and postnatal age of 1-6 days were randomized to receive 2ml of one of the four solutions: 12.5% sucrose, 25% sucrose, 50% sucrose, and sterile water (control).

The first group of 30 babies received sugar syrup before a routine blood test (heel pricking, which is usually painful) done to detect jaundice. The other 30 babies were given only sterile water as a control group.

Placing 2ml of a 25% or 50% sucrose solution on the tongue before pricking the heel significantly reduced the crying time, compared to babies who got water. Also, their heart rate returned to normal more quickly. The stronger sugar solution had the greater effect, crying being reduced further with increasing concentration of sucrose. From which we may conclude that sucrose (sugar) placed on the tongue May bee a useful and safe form of analgesia for use with newborn infants.

Blass and Hoffmeyer also showed that 12% solution of inter-oral sucrose significantly reduced the duration of crying in new-born babies subjected to heel pricking or circumcision.
Date in numbers:

Having high medical and nutritious value, dates are expected to be the best food for the future. Dates contain as high a percentage as 88% of carbohydrate (starch), (2.5-5%) of fat, (2.3-5.6%) of Protein and (6.4-11.5%) of Vitamins and dietary fiber. The flesh contains (0.2 – 5%) of oil, whereas the seed’s weight is (7.7 -9.7%) oil. The weight of the seed is (6.6 – 14.2%) of the date’s weight.

Dates contain Vitamins A, B1 and B2, and contain Fluorine who defeats teeth decay. Other minerals that are found in various proportions in dates include boron, calcium, cobalt, copper, iron, magnesium, manganese, potassium, phosphorous, sodium and zinc. Additionally, the seeds contain aluminum, cadmium, chloride, lead and sulphur in various proportions. Selenium, element believed to help prevent cancer and important in immune function, is also found in dates.

The practice of the Prophet, upon him b piece, is recorded in the collections of his sayings and reports about him, of which the most revered are the two Sahih collections of Bukhari and Muslim:

Abu Buradah reported from Abu Musa, who said: `I had a new-born baby; I took him to the Prophet Muhammad, upon him be peace and blessings, who called him Ibrahim. The Prophet (saw) chewed a date then he took it and rubbed the inside of the baby's mouth with it.'

There are many other reported incidents like this one.

The date contains a very high percentage of sugar (70-80%); it has both fructose and glucose which have high calorific values, it is easily and quickly digestible, and very helpful to the brain. The date contains 2.2% protein, vitamin A, vitamins B1, B2 ad nicotruic acid (against Pellagra); it has traces of minerals needed for the body such as potassium, sodium, calcium, iron, and manganese, copper. Potassium, of which percentage is very high, has been found to be very effective for cases of hemorrhage, such as the occasions of birth or circumcision.

We may note that the Sunnah also commends dates for the breaking of the fast in Ramadan. Dates should be eaten, if available, before the sunset prayer - this is medically and nutritionally the best way and the Sunnah.

The great worth of dates is also indicated in a famous and beautiful passage of the Quran, Surah Maryam, verses 25-6:

And shake towards you the trunk of the palm-tree and it will drop on you fresh ripe dates. So eat and drink and be comforted.

This was the prescription of Allah, the Creator, for the blessed Bibi Maryam at the time of the birth of Isa (A.S.) Jesus, the blessed Prophet of Allah. It was a prescription to make the delivery easy and comfortable.

As in the example have briefly recorded in this example, we believe further research will confirm for those who still doubt the full worth and truth, the wisdom, of the teachings of the Quran and Sunnah.

We shall show them our signs on his furthest horizons and within themselves until it becomes clear to them that it is the truth. Is it not sufficient that your Lord is witness over all things? (Quran Fussilet, 41.53)

As the authors of the medical study referred to intend trying new sugary or sweet substances, we shall recommend that they try dates for the newborn for the relief of pain.
I  hope Muslim medical scientists and researchers take this new discovery on board, and that many more ideas and practices in the teaching of Islam needing investigative research and objective, scientific study will get the attention they deserve

Dear Believer if you are feeling weak, don’t hesitate to take 7 dates in the morning as the prophet (PBUH) recommended. those Seven dates weigh around 70 gm, so if you take them, then you actually took 70 milligrams of calcium- which is very useful for the bones, joints and nerves, 35 milligrams of phosphorus which is nutritious to the brain and 7 milligrams of iron which is strengthens the body in general and the heart in particular.

It’s also suitable for reducing weight as it only contains 0.25 gm of fat. So if you suffer from Obesity, then this meal is the right thing for you. This prophetic meal regulates and stimulates the bowels with the10 gm of dietary fiber it contains.

So won’t you say yes to the prophetic advice?

Islam is the Path of "knowledge."

In the Islamic theory of knowledge, the term used for knowledge in Arabic is 'ilm,
'Knowledge' falls short of expressing all the aspects of 'ilm. Knowledge in the Western world means information about something, divine or corporeal, while 'ilm is an all-embracing term covering theory, action and education.
In fact there is no concept that has been operative as a determinant of the Muslim civilization in all its aspects to the same extent as 'ilm. This holds good even for the most powerful among the terms of Muslim religious life such as, for instance, tawhid "recognition of the oneness of God," ad-din, "the true religion," and many others that are used constantly and emphatically. None of them equals ilm in depth of meaning and wide incidence of use. There is no branch of Muslim intellectual life, of Muslim religious and political life, and of the daily life of the average Muslim that remains untouched by the all pervasive attitude toward "knowledge" as something of supreme value for Muslim being. 'ilm is Islam, even if the theologians have been hesitant to accept the technical correctness of this equation. The very fact of their passionate discussion of the concept attests to its fundamental importance for Islam.

Before one sets out to seek knowledge we must bear in mind there are etiquettes for seeking knowledge. Only when one attains knowledge according to them, will the knowledge gained be beneficial. If we have no respect for the knowledge that we gain, that knowledge will merely remain information. Knowledge can only be beneficial for us if we gain it according to the following guidelines:

Be patient – To gain ‘ilm is not easy and a lot of hard effort and sacrifice is required. For this reason it is very important that one remains patient.

It may be said that Islam is the path of "knowledge." No other religion or ideology has so much emphasized the importance of 'ilm. In the Qur'an the word 'alim has occurred in 140 places, while al-'ilm in 27. In all, the total number of verses in which 'ilm or its derivatives and associated words are used is 704. The aids of knowledge such as book, pen, ink etc. amount to almost the same number. Qalam occurs in two places, al-kitab in 230 verses, among which al-kitab for al-Qur'an occurs in 81 verses. Other words associated with writing occur in 319 verses. It is important to note that pen and book are essential to the acquisition of knowledge. The Islamic revelation started with the word iqra' ('read!' or 'recite!').

According to the Qur'an, the first teaching class for Adam started soon after his creation and Adam was taught 'all the Names'.

Allah is the first teacher and the absolute guide of humanity. This knowledge was not imparted to even the Angels. In Usul al-Kafi there is a tradition narrated by Imam Musa al-Kazim ('a) that 'ilm is of three types: ayatun muhkamah (irrefutable signs of God), faridatun 'adilah (just obligations) and sunnat al-qa'imah (established traditions of the Prophet [s]). This implies that 'ilm, attainment of which is obligatory upon all Muslims covers the sciences of theology, philosophy, law, ethics, politics and the wisdom imparted to the Ummah by the Prophet (S). Al-Ghazali has unjustifiably differentiated between useful and useless types of knowledge. Islam actually does not consider any type of knowledge as harmful to human beings. However, what has been called in the Qur'an as useless or rather harmful knowledge, consists of pseudo sciences or the lores prevalent in the Jahiliyyah.

'Ilm is of three types: information (as opposed to ignorance), natural laws, and knowledge by conjecture. The first and second types of knowledge are considered useful and their acquisition is made obligatory. As for the third type, which refers to what is known through guesswork and conjecture, or is accompanied with doubt, we shall take that into consideration later, since conjecture or doubt are sometimes essential for knowledge as a means, but not as an end.

Beside various Qur'anic verses emphasizing the importance of knowledge, there are hundreds of Prophetic traditions that encourage Muslims to acquire all types of knowledge from any corner of the world. Muslims, during their periods of stagnation and decline, confined themselves to theology as the only obligatory knowledge, an attitude which is generally but wrongly attributed to al-Ghazali's destruction of philosophy and sciences in the Muslim world. Al-Ghazali, of course, passed through a turbulent period of skepticism, but he was really in search of certainty, which he found not in discursive knowledge but in mystic experience. In his favour it must be said that he paved the way for liberating the believer from blind imitation and helping him approach the goal of certain knowledge.

...........The Aadaab of Seeking Knowledge..............

These are some points which should be taken into consideration when setting out to seek knowledge:

1. Have the correct intention

The Prophet Muhammad (saw) said, “All actions are by their intentions” meaning all actions are judged according to the niyyah with which they have been done. So even if a good deed was done with a bad intention, it will not be accepted as a good deed because the intention behind it was bad.

2. Stay away from sins

Staying away from sins is essential when seeking knowledge. The story of Imam ash-Shafi’i rahimahullah is very famous where he complained to his teacher Waki’ rahimahullah about his bad memory. So ash-Shafi’i says: “fa-arshadanee ila tark il-ma’aasi” “He advised me to leave the disobedient acts.”

Al-Muhaddith, Allaamah Yusuf Binnouri rahimahullah mentions in his book, Ma’aarif us-Sunan that looking with an evil gaze weakens one’s memory.

3. Act upon what you have learnt

It is essential that whatever is learnt, you should try your utmost to act upon it. It is said, “Knowledge without action is like a load without a carrier.”

It is narrated in a hadith to the nearest meaning, “man ‘amila bi-ma ‘alim ‘allamahu-llaaha bi-ma lam ‘alim” “The one acts on what he has learnt, Allah will teach him that which he has not learnt.” So if we act on what we have learnt, even if it is very little, Allah will give us more.

It is said that the thing Sayyidina Abud-Dardaa radiAllahu anh used to fear the most was that he would be asked on yawm ul-qiyaamah about what actions he did with all the knowledge he had learnt.

4. Stay away from the mushtabahaat in food and drink

It is very important, especially in the student days to make sure that everything you eat is halaal, upto the point that even the things you are not sure about, you should leave them. The Prophet (saw) said, to the nearest meaning, “da’ maa yuribuk ilaa maa laa yuribuk” “Leave the things which put you in doubt for those things which do not put you in doubt.”

It is narrated of Abdullah ibn Mubaarak rahimahullah that when he went from his home town to ash-Shaam, he borrowed a pen from somebody there. Later on, he forgot about this pen and returned home. When he had reached home, he remembered that he had borrowed a pen from somebody in ash-Shaam, so he travelled all the way back just to return the one pen. He said, “To give back one dirham which I am unsure about is more beloved to me than to spend 1000 daraahim in the path of Allah.”

5. Don’t be lazy in the mustahabbaat

It is fairly common nowadays so hear, “Oh it is only mandub” or “It’s only sunnah, you don’t have to do it”. But the truth of the matter is that our a’maal are such that we cannot afford to lose out on a single sunnah, be it however small.
Whoever thinks lowly of the aadaab and mustahabbaat, he will soon begin to think lowly of the sunnah. And whoever thinks lowly of the sunnah, he will soon begin to think lowly of the faraaid. And whoever thinks lowly of the faraaid and does not fulfil them, then surely he has lost the dunyaa and the aakhirah.

6. Be humble

It is absolutely necessary to stay away from kibr in any form. Especially in this case, it is impossible to gain any beneficial knowledge without humility. It is said, “Humility is for the one from whom knowledge is learnt” so it is essential that especially with your teachers, and fellow pupils you adopt a humble attitude.

7. Tolerate all hardships in the way of knowledge with patience
It was the way of the salaf that on the road of seeking ‘ilm, they would tolerate all kinds of difficulties with utmost patience, hoping only for a reward in the aakhirah.
Sheikh Abdul-Fattaah Abu Ghuddah rahimahullah has written on this topic ‘Safahat min Sabr il-Ulama and Shada'id al-Ilm wa tahseel’ in which he mentions some of the difficulties the ulamaa faced whilst studying and seeking knowledge.
Imam Abu Yusuf rahimahullah says, “al-ilmu izzun la zhulla feeh – wa yuj’alu bi-zhullin la izza feeh” Nothing is gained without hardship. Ilm is an honour but to get to it you will have to undergo much humiliation.
Imam Maalik rahimahullah says that the condition of Rabee’ rahimahullah was such that he had even sold the roof of his house for the sake of seeking ‘ilm.
SubhanAllah. This is the true zeal for knowledge. Nothing came in is his to knowledge, till he even sold the roof of his own house! Rabee’ has realised the true importance of knowledge, so he let nothing come in his way when he was seeking it, may Allah have mercy on him.

8. Realise the status of ilm and know your position as one who seeks it
It is said, “al-ilmu yu’taa wa la ya’ti” so it is you yourself who will have to go through trouble to gain ilm, it will not come to you by itself. Remember that you are the taalib and ilm is the matloob not the other way round. And this is illustrated in the story of Imam Maalik rahimahullah who, when asked to teach the sons of the king refused, as ilm is not something so cheap that it will come to the princes in their palace. Ilm is something which must be sought for.
Imam Abu Yusuf rahimahullah says, “al-ilmu shay’un la yu’tika ba’duhu hattaa tu’til-insaana kulluh.” “Ilm is a thing which will not give you even a part of itself until man gives himself wholly to it.”

It comes without saying that to achieve such a high status as that of a taalib ilm, for whom the angels spread out their wings, and even the fish in the sea seek forgiveness, you have to fulfil duties and take up responsibilities.

# Good company – Pious company and friends should be kept so that one can attain their good qualites. It is also good to keep company with those who have a great zeal for knowledge instead of those who do not. This is so that one can never be put off wanting to learn more. The ‘Ulama state, that in order to gain good habits and to acquire beneficial knowledge, it is vital to stay in the presence of good and pious people. If one is not able to be in the company of the pious, then one should read the books written by these pious people.
# Respect and have good conduct with the teacher – One should ensure that respect is always shown towards the teacher. One cannot gain all knowledge from books without the guidance of a good teacher.

Doing it just right -five-time prayers

             ........................After the profession of faith................

After the profession of faith the next most important religious duty for a Muslim is that of prayer.
Once this is done, performing the ritual Prayer called Salah five times a day becomes obligatory. Each Prayer must be performed at its specified time everyday.
Whilst the Qur'an mentions only three daily prayers, Muslim tradition calls for five: at dawn; at noon; in mid-afternoon; after sunset; just before going to bed at night.
It goes without saying that Prayer is the pillar of Islam, the pinnacle of good deeds, and the peak of obedience.

`Uthman ibn `Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If the time for a prescribed Salah comes, and a Muslim performs wudu' (ablution) properly (and then offers his Salah) with humility and bowing (to Allah), it will be an expiation for his past sins, so long as he has not committed a major sin; and this is applicable to all times." (Reported by Muslim.)

Salah is a pillar of Islam. Doing it just right in accordance with Sunnah is the responsibility of every Muslim. Unfortunately, we go about performing the cardinal dictates of Salah in a carefree manner following our whims, hardly caring to see that those dictates have to be carried out in the manner they were passed on to us by the Holy Prophet (Sallaho Alaihe Wassallam).

This is why most of our Salah offerings remain deprived of the gleams and blessings of Sunnah, although, following these dictates just right hardly takes any more time or labour. What is needed is a touch of concern. If we give a little time and some attention, learn the correct method and make a habit of it, then the time that we spend in making our Salah today would remain the same yet the Salah thus performed would have the advantage of having been made in accordance with Sunnah and its rewards and merits and its gleams and blessings would be much more then what you experienced earlier.

The revered Companions, may Allah be pleased with them all, took great care while performing each single unit of the act of Salah, and while doing so, they continued learning about the Sunnah of the Prophet from each other.

Hence, presenting a comprehensive account of Salah problems and rulings is not the objective here, instead, the immediate concern is to relate a few important points which would help synchronize the form of Salah with the demands of Sunnah. Another aim is to sound a note of warning against mistakes and shortcomings that seem to have gained a lot of currency these days.Acting in accordance with the brief words of advice given here will, Inshallah, help make our Salah fall in line with Sunnah, at least in it’s outward appearance when a Muslim could humbly submit before his Lord.

Lord, here I am, bearing similarly to Your beloved, through in form only, yet hoping---- You shall make it real.

And what get to do is by the help and support of Allah, in Him I place my trust and towards Him I turn passionately.

Having cleansed yourself by Wudu, you may proceed to perform Salah.( Wudu is a ritual cleansing). Before you begin your Salah, however, you must make sure that you have a clean body, a clean place to pray, and that you are wearing clothing free of impurities. The minimum clothing required during Salah is:

 A. For males: Any clothing that covers from the naval to the knees. It is preferable to cover the shoulders.

 B. For females: Any clothing that covers all of the body (including the head) except the face, hands, and according to Imam Abu-Hanifah the toes and a portion of the front of the feet.

There are seven conditions for a salaat to be corrected.
1-Niyyat (intention)
2-Tahrima (To say Allah Akbar)
3-Qiyam (Standing)
4-Qiraat (Recitation of Quran by mouth gently)
5-Ruku (To bow)
6-Sajda (Prostration)
7-Qa'da-i- Akhira (Last sitting).

TAHRIMA means to say Allah Akbar when beginning salaat, and is fard.No other word to replace it is acceptable. If the takbir is said too long, like AAllah (with AA instead of one A) in the beginning or Akbaar (with aa instead of one a) at the end, salaat will not be accepted. If 'Takbir' is said before the imam does, salaat will not have started.

QIYAM means to stand.

QIRAT: Means to read (recite) by mouth gently.

RUKU: After the sura you bend for the ruku saying takbir

SAJDAH (prostration)

QA'DA-I-AKHIRA:
Means last sitting in the last rak'at, it is fard to sit as long as it takes to say the Athiyyat,

and then complete the prayer by looking over your right shoulder (where the angel who records your good deeds is) and saying the Salaam

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

and then looking over your left shoulder (where the angel who records your wrongful deeds is) and saying the same.

1.  Salat (contact or link prayers) is the name for the obligatory prayers which are performed five times a day, and are a direct contact or link between the worshipper and God with no earthly intermediaries.
2.The five-time prayers become obligatory from the moment a person embraces Islam. This is an extremely important tenet of Islam and has been enjoined with great emphasis in the Holy Quran. It is a form of worship which establishes the link between man and his Creator and Benefactor, GOD. Through 'Salat' a person communes with his Lord, the Creator and the Sustainer of the Universe.
3. Just as performing 'Salat' is obligatory, learning to perform it in the prescribed way is also obligatory so that one should know what he/she is saying to his/her Lord, and enjoy the full blessings and benefits of praying. In the performance of Salat , reciting the Ftiha (Sura 1 of the Quran) have to be said in Arabic.

 Missed Prayers
The schedule of Muslim prayer is one that is generous and flexible. There are five prayers to be performed, during various periods of time throughout the day. The time needed to perform the prayer is minimal. Yet many of us miss prayers during the day -- sometimes for unavoidable reasons, sometimes due to negligence.

Of course one should try to pray within the specified times. There is wisdom in the Islamic prayer schedule, setting times throughout the day to "take a break" to remember God's blessings and to seek His guidance.

If a prayer is missed, it is common practice among Muslims that it is to be made up as soon as it is remembered or as soon as one is able to do so. This is known as Qadaa'. For example, if one misses the noon prayer because of a work meeting that could not be interrupted, one should pray as soon as the meeting is over. If the next prayer time has already come, one should first perform the prayer that was missed, and immediately after it the “on time” prayer.

It is incorrect to simply throw up one’s hands and say, “Oh, it was missed and there is nothing to do about it.” There are times when prayer is missed for unavoidable reasons. It is indeed a sin if one misses prayers regularly without a valid reason (i.e. constantly oversleeping the pre-dawn prayer). However, the door to repentance is open and the first step is to make up the missed prayer as soon as possible. One should repent any delay that was due to negligence or forgetfulness, and commit to developing the habit of performing the prayers within their timeframe.

"Prayer should be performed on time. If for some unavoidable reasons one is unable to pray on time, then Qadaa’ can be done, but it should be done as soon as possible. One does not have to wait for the time of another prayer. However, one should avoid the prohibited times of prayers. These are: when the sun is rising, when it is at its highest point in the middle of the day and when it is setting.
Similarly, if one is unable to wake up for Fajr prayer on time, one should do it as soon as one wakes up.

If it is the time of sunrise or shuruq then one should wait a few minutes until the sun is risen and then one should make the Qadaa’ of Fajr prayer. One must make the Qadaa’ of missed prayers. The prayers remain due and one is responsible to perform them until they are performed."

Prayer, obligatory and spontaneous, is an immense spiritual treasure to be tapped. It inspires peace, purity and tranquility and instills companionship with God. It amazingly reduces the hustle and bustle of life to tame proportions. By their spacing to five times a day, including its beginning, prayers tend to maintain a therapeutic level and practically leave no room for mischievous thought or deed.

Prayer is a Muslim's Mairaj, or communication with Allah. Prayer purifies and cleans your mind five times a day, and serves to bring peace to your life. Prayer is a man's way of thanking Allah, and reminds him that Allah is watching over his life, giving him the courage to face even the toughest of times.

May Allah Almighty make it beneficial for all of us and give us the taufiq it. AminBy the grace of Allah, there are a large number of books, big and small, dealing with the precepts of Salah

Say  Your Prayers before Prayers are said for You.
